A Child's World
In recent decades literally tens of millions of children have been given a new chance to grow and prosper through better medical care, schooling or, in the case of refugees, through the protection of UNHCR and other humanitarian organizations. But despite these accomplishments, life has never been so desperate for many of the world's youngest citizens, including the estimated 25 million children currently uprooted from their homes.
Child Asylum Claims The purpose of the Guidelines is to improve the quality of the asylum process for children and to ensure a consistent interpretation of the refugee definition. The Guidelines cover all child asylum-seekers. (22 december 2009) |

A Child Rights Based Training and Capacity Building Initiative
ARC which was originally initiated by UNHCR and the International Save
the Children Alliance in 1997, and in 1999 joined by UNICEF and OHCHR.
As of January 2002, the co-ordination activities
of the project have
been handled by Save the Children. |
In December 2009 a new edition of the Action for the Rights of Children
(ARC) Resource Pack was launched. Fourteen resource packs have been developed
focusing on the rights and needs of refugee and displaced children. In
addition an ARC Facilitator's Toolkit provides guidance on developing learning
opportunities. These resources are also available in Arabic, French and
Spanish. |

Untold numbers of children, including millions of refugees, continue to live in unimaginable conditions around the world.
A special UN meeting to review a decade of work in helping the world's victimised children and discuss future projects was held May 8-10 2002. The outcome document, 'A World Fit for Children' outlines a strong focused agenda for the present decade.
