June 20

World Refugee Day is celebrated every year on June 20. Tens of thousands of people around the world take time to recognize and applaud the contribution of forcibly displaced people. The day is celebrated in more than 100 countries, involving the forcibly displaced themselves, government officials, humanitarian aid workers, celebrities, school children and the general public.

World Refugee Day is observed in the Baltic and Nordic region in different ways. If you want to arrange an event, please contact the Regional Office for advice and ideas. World Refugee Day has been celebrated since 2001.

World Refugee Day 2011

To mark the World Refugee Day and this year's 60th anniversary of the UN Refugee Convention, the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR has launched globally a six-month campaign aimed at promoting public awareness of the stories of individual refugees and others forcibly displaced people.
